Helsinki according to Joanna Laajisto

Today post is not really about private homes’ interiors. It is about spaces I admire and which I find inspiring. My writing about interesting places could not be completed without a word about a Finnish interior designer: Joanna Laajisto.

I have been living in Finland for some time already – long enough to have my favorite places in Helsinki. When I started to analyze what many of those interiors have in common, I found out that… many of them were designed by the same interior designer: Joanna Laajisto.

I consider her interiors as a quintessence of nordic design. Less is more. Get rid of anything what is unnecessary. Light. White.Warm wood details. She combines elegance with practical solutions. Old spaces with modern touch. They welcome you, make you feel just comfortable, no matter if you find yourself at a market restaurant, you are experiencing more fancy dining or  just having a bubbly at a champagne bar:)

Joanna is a founder of Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio, based in Helsinki and she was working in Los Angeles before. She focuses on “environmental and energy efficient design”.

If you happen to be in the center of Helsinki and you want to relax somewhere for a while, I would highly recommend to visit the following places. Look around and enjoy good design at: (pictures via: Joanna Laajisto)

1. One Tiny Champagne Bar, Stockmann, Pohjoisesplanadi 41, 00100 Helsinki

Lovely, really tiny champagne bar:) It is located on the ground floor of Stockmann Department store (entrance from Pohjoisesplandi). Perfect way to finish your shopping!

2. Mattolaituri, Ehrenströmintie 3 A, Helsinki

Small restaurant by the water, close to the beautiful park Kaivopuisto. Again, what a success with turning this historical place into trendy but chilled bar! THE place to visit in the sunny summer day!

3. Story Helsinki, (Old Market Hall) Vanha Kauppahalli, Eteläranta,Helsinki

Imagine Old Market Hall, smell of all kinds of fresh, reach foods, busy Saturday morning and the place in the middle where you can relax, slow down and enjoy good snack:) This is my story about this eatery:)

4. Minna Parikka store, Aleksanterinkatu 36, 00100 Helsinki

(worth visiting also because of the beautiful handmade shoes:)

Have a great weekend!
